Racial equity can be defined as "the condition that would be achieved if one's race identity no longer influenced how one fares." (from "Awake to Woke to Work: Building a Race Equity Culture" by Equity in the Center). This collection focuses on racial equity and also includes works that explore the larger diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) framework. Our aim is to raise awareness about funding for racial equity efforts as well as activities in the social sector meant to realize racial equity. Partnering with Federal Agencies to Advance Racial Equity is a report by Race Forward and PolicyLink  that describes the work that commenced in partnership with federal agency offices, considers observations and lessons learned along the way, and discusses efforts that must continue at the federal level to fully realize the intentions of the executive order and move this country toward a more racially just future.Race Forward and PolicyLink co-led a Racial Equity Governing Pilot Project with federal agencies in the fall and winter of 2021 and 2022. This report discusses critical elements of these partnership pilots and lessons to inform and support the longer term aspirations of the federal government to become actively antiracist. 

How Post-Pandemic Tax Cuts Can Affect Equity: An Examination of How State Tax Changes Affected Different Income Groups and Representative Households in Arizona, Maryland, New Mexico, and Ohio

State policymakers across the country are considering tax cuts in 2022. While there are many reasons and ways to cut taxes, state policymakers should keep in mind that the pandemic's negative effects were unequal and that future state revenue growth is uncertain. This report, using the Tax Policy Center state tax model, analyzes 2021 tax cuts passed in Arizona, Maryland, New Mexico, and Ohio, showing how each state's tax cut affected different income groups and representative households from different racial and ethnic groups. In general, states that expanded refundable tax credits provided larger benefits to representative Black and Latino households.

Written by Malkia Devich Cyril, Lyle Matthew Kan, Ben Francisco Maulbeck, and Lori Villarosa, the report examines trends, contradictions, and divergences in funding for both racial equity and racial justice work.

Ensuring Equity in COVID-19 Planning, Response, and Recovery Decision Making: An Equity Lens Tool for Health Departments

Big Cities Health Coalition commissioned Human Impact Partners to create this Equity Lens Tool for members to use in the context of COVID-related decision making. Our goal is to provide a resource for health departments and their sister agencies to create momentum and (re)energize the practice of applying an equity lens in COVID-19 decision making by demonstrating its importance and necessity, assess how specific decisions will be experienced by specific communities and ensure these decisions work for the people most impacted, suggest an approach for engaging with and remaining accountable to communities historically disenfranchised from public decision making.

Integrating Racial/Ethnic Equity into Policy Research: Policy Assessments to Improve Child Health

Decision-makers are increasingly called on to improve existing policies to reduce racial/ethnic disparities and ensure all have a fair chance at health. In this presentation given at NOPREN (Nutrition and Obesity Policy, Research and Evaluation Network), Dolores Acevedo-Garcia and Pam Joshi introduce the Policy Equity Assessment, a framework that combines policy assessment and equity methods to synthesize existing research and identify and conduct new analyses of policies' ability to reduce racial/ethnic inequities.
